of earth, of heaven, of brides and cloaks, of scattering and gathering

how many are the beautiful things God has prepared for those who love Him!

when the serpent spoke to Eve, Christ was already the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world whose heel would crush the serpent’s head;

when sin cursed the ground of perfect Eden, He already saw the recreation of heaven and earth into newness;

when Eve’s child-bearing and husband-loving was turned on its head, He already knew He’d enter a woman’s womb and make for Himself a pure bride out of all the battered Adams and tattered Eves;

when He scattered mankind in their languages, He knew they would all be gathered in His children again someday, millions of colourful threads woven into a multi-coloured coat for the true Joseph;

truly all things work for good, for those who love Him and are called according to His purposes.

“You bent down over our wounds and healed us, giving us a medicine stronger than our afflictions, a mercy greater than our fault. In this way even sin, by virtue of your invincible love, served to elevate us to the divine life” (St. Ambrose).
