Not entirely sure why
alongside stats of infection and death
the news charts coronavirus’ rise in weed sales
(which have tripled). Is our nation at home and high?
Not sure if this is meant to catch the investor’s eye
glimmer hope into our collective spirit, or remind us of how dire
our life when the government calls addictions essential
and then addictions become
essential. News relays the high sales at beer stores,
perhaps we are meant to be pleased at how it shores
up a portion of our sinking economy.
Is our government reminding us of the income they reap
off our follies? Something to back their snowballing offers
of money. The optimists say humanity is becoming
better in this pandemic. The news says that in Canada
humanity is becoming drunk and high in record amounts.

So…. this is not a cheerful note to end a week on. I know. Thing is, on the news for several weeks that was the constant trio — coronavirus, beer stores sales, and marijuana sales. Now the news is picking up on international conflict again. The country has also been shaken by a tragedy on our East Coast (worst mass shooting in the nation’s history) and a tragedy on the West Coast (a Snowbird crash which killed a pilot on a flight meant to boost morale).
How is your country reckoning with the pandemic?
