“Never Seen”

police cars patrol
my quiet street before.
They pull up, two deep
yellow lights flash,
move on. It’s a war,
they say, so don’t be rash.
It’s not fought “out there”
but “in here”, in our homes,
on our hands, our feet.
In these lungs, this air.
Police claim they protect us
from us.
